Jillian is a designer and ceramicist working from her studio in Derbyshire.
With a degree in graphic design, working for many years in the design industry and 10 years as a ceramicist, she now makes bespoke collections and individual art.
From a love of corvids, entomology, flora and fauna, mixed with a passion for the wild landscapes of Iceland she has been inspired to create collections of apothecary vessels, sculptures and wall art in predominantly porcelain and Parian clay.
These pieces become the ceramic canvas for her simple colour pallets, dramatic glazes and her own pen and ink illustrations, text and maps.
The collections are a personal journey from designer to ceramicist and Jillian’s inspirations along the way. The route is sometimes simple, an illustration of a raven, magpie or toadstool, capturing a moment in nature and time in a graphic way. These images marry her love of drawing with the more unpredictable use of copper oxide. The illustration is as important as the quality of the vessel, both working in harmony.
With the Icelandic wintry landscapes, the processes are more involved, exploring glazing and making techniques to bring the icy wilderness she fell in love with into something that she can share, hopefully helping you experience a little bit of the magic she felt. With her hand drawn maps of places she saw and text echoing her thoughts at the time, and she hopes you will share her adventures every step of the way, however many steps that takes!
